bridge scandal tonight. chris christie's former campaign manager appears to be the subject of a federal criminal investigation. in a court filing, bill stepien's attorney says his client is in, quote, the throes of a criminal investigation, and that the feds have tried to contact stepien directly, saying that on january 17th, an fbi special agent called stepien's cell. shortly later, two assistant u.s. attorneys called stepien's lawyer. then in mid-february, an fbi agent along with the department of justice investigator paid a visit to stepien's home. we're also learning the u.s. attorney's office tried to contact former deputy chief of staff bridget kelly and her parents. both stepien and kelly were very close to christie, and they are the only two to publicly say they will not turn over any documents. so where is this investigation going next? joining me now, former u.s. attorney kendall coffey. kendall, thanks for your time tonight. >> hey, thanks for inviting me, reverend. >> a criminal investigation, what does that tell you, kendall? >> well, it tells you that they decided that the

. thanks so much for joining me. chris christie going back to his political roots today holding his second town hall of the year in morris county, new jersey. that's where christie began his political career some 20 years ago. our chief congressional correspondent, dana bash, has more from washington. good morning, dana. >> good morning, carol. it is 111th town hall. who is counting, right? he is known for in new jersey for doing this kind of back and forth. it is something that he and his aides believe has helped with his popularity there. he is going to need all the help he can get because, never mind nationwide, even in new jersey, he has seen his popularity plummet because of all the scandals that are surrounding him. the name of the game for him at this point is really to just keep his eyes on his current job, his day job, to be the governor of new jersey, to have these kind of town halls. the last one that he had was about sandy relief. this is going to be more focused on the big speech that he gave yesterday, which is his budget. if you look at the kind of budget that he proposed, o

are not important. host: you have been very critical of chris christie and his administration when it comes to the new work, new jersey school district. what is your complaint? christie is the boss of the new works will -- newark schools. he put in a superintendent who does not want to listen to the community. she took away a bunch of things that were put into improve our schools, because you do not agree with the. m. she has suggested a new plan that would totally rock that -- that would the chartercalize schools, and then roll over the contract that she said is absolutely imperative for doing the work that she and the government said you needed to do in newark. sittinge the superintendent you actually have to listen to the people that you serve, not pretend that they are not important. what we have said, is listen to the people. do the things that we know work and schooling, not just give the schools to private prayers -- purveyors. that is basically why we have written a letter to chris christie zhang listen to people. listen to the reasons why people are upset with her, do not ignore it
